Mario graduated from the Ateneo de Manila University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management, and he earned MBA units from the Ateneo Graduate School of Business. He has attended numerous training and development programs, locally and internationally.
Inspired by the Jesuits’ educational thrust of developing “men-for-others,” he started off his career with Philippine Business for Social Progress, a non-profit foundation. He was instrumental in assessing viability, securing funding and technical assistance for various livelihood programs of low-income communities across the country. He then moved on to do consulting work for Organization Builders, a local training and organization development firm, handling both business development, sales and training delivery to large local and multinational accounts.
Mario joined John Clements Consultants in 1986, handling sales and business development, and he has since been part of the Executive Committee of the Executive Search & Selection Division (ESSD). He has been instrumental in bringing in and sustaining the prime accounts of ESSD. He has been at the forefront of initiatives in sales and business development, marketing as well as service delivery of ESSD. He previously assumed leadership responsibilities at the three other business units of the John Clements Group, namely Professional Staffers, PT John Clements Indonesia, and HRD Consulting Division.
Today, Mario is the Senior Vice President & Managing Director of ESSD. He is responsible for the topline and bottomline performance of the business. He is also a member of the Board of Directors and the Management Committee of John Clements Consultants, Inc. and, and the Board of Directors of EDI-Staffbuilders International, Inc.
He is very passionate about executive search, believing that in its own way, the search business contributes to nation-building. Mario is a pioneering director of the Philippine Association of Executive Search Professionals which espouses code of ethics in the search practice. He is also the Chairman of the Trade & Investment Committee of the American Chamber of Commerce (AMCHAM), where he steers the sharing and discussion of relevant topics affecting trade and investment in the Philippines. And he participates in various opportunities to “sell” the Philippines as the destination of choice for investment thru Business Process Association of the Philippines (BPAP), Board of Investment (BOI), AMCHAM, and other such organizations.
